Have you ever thought about the chemicals that are lurking in your home?
To be honest, I never did.
I used to believe that because my family has and continues to build a life by conventional farming that I wasn’t allowed to believe in having a chemical free-ish home.
As if being a conventional farmer and having a chemical free-ish home was hypocritical.
As if using chemicals on our crops, meant I must use them in our home.
Nonsense, I know.
But if I’m being completely honest, I had to challenge this belief before I could get to where I am today. I had to challenge my belief in order to change it.
I never used to think about the chemicals lurking in my home. Never! Partially due to my limited belief and partially due to ignorance. I was completely unaware of the chemicals in my home.
My AHA moment:
- when our son had a reaction to sunscreen and
- our daughter ingested a piece of a dishwasher tab.
Not moments I’m proud of, but moments that were necessary for me to get to where I am today… our journey to a chemical free-ish home! I don’t believe in perfection.
Time to take control of the chemicals in my home.
Time to do away with my ignorance and become an educated consumer.
Time to commit to making the necessary changes to create a healthy, chemical free-ish home.
DID YOU KNOW?
There are chemicals in the products found in your:
- laundry room
- living room
- cosmetic bag
- medicine cabinet
Crazy, right? And a lot to take in. I totally feel the same way! I pretty much just listed every room in our homes.
Shouldn’t we just be able to trust that what is sold in store is safe? Unfortunately not. Which is why it is extremely important to be mindful of the products we bring into our homes and put onto our bodies.
We must be intentional about the products we bring in to our home.
We must be intentional about the products we put on our body and our baby’s body.
Over the course of 12 months, I will be transforming our home from chemical filled to chemical free-ish! Each month I will switch out current products for chemical free products. And I will share with you along the way!
Why over the course of a year? As much as I would love to dump all our chemical filled products and replace them with chemical free products right this minute, it’s just not possible for us financially.
Guys, you should have saw my husband’s face when I told him it was important to me that we make this lifestyle changes. The first question he asked was, “How much is it going to cost?”. I’m not joking. That’s just how he is and I am so thankful for him. It’s no secret in our relationship that I am the spender and he is the saver. I like to think we balance each other out.
Anyway, back to the point… he had valid concerns about swapping a cheaper, chemical filled product for a potentially more expensive, chemical free product. And, I respect that. Which is why we are doing this over 12 months.
Our journey to a chemical free-ish home will be a huge lifestyle change. A change that I am determined to accomplish in small, manageable steps. Your journey may look different than ours. You may choose to take smaller steps or bigger steps or no steps at all. And that’s ok! All that truly matters is that you are doing what is right for you and your family. Please know that I am here to support you every step of the way.
As a mama, I feel a HUGE responsibility to care for my babies in the BEST way I know how. I’m sure you do too! Our children’s health is our responsibility. We have the privilege of caring for them. And, when the day comes that our children are able to care for themselves I want them to have the tools they need to BEST care for themselves.
Our kids learn more from what we do than what we say. We are their example, so set the example of being an educated consumer. Do not blindly trust the companies that line store shelfs. Do not fall victim to fear based marketing. Hell, don’t take my word for truth. After all, it’s only an opinion. Do your own research and make educated decisions. Become an empowered consumer!
