Want to redesign your kids bedroom? You’ve come to the right place! Here are my top 3 tips on how to get your kids involved, as well as the reveal of my daughter’s bedroom redesign!
Growing up, my bedroom was my sacred space. A space that nurtured me as a creative, a student, an athlete, a friend, a sister, a daughter. This is why I value my kids having a bedroom that nurtures them.
At three years old my daughter was rapidly outgrowing her nursery. Her room was in that awkward in-between stage… in between a nursery and a kids room. She was still sleeping in her crib. Most of the baby items were gone. A few toddler items had appeared. It was time to transform the space to serve her better!!
Now, before I get into Kate’s bedroom reveal, I want to share my top three tips on how to get your kids involved in their bedroom design.
MY TOP THREE TIPS
1. Ask Questions
- Ask them to close their eyes and envision what their ideal bedroom looks like. What does their bed look like? What colors do they see? How do they want to feel in their bedroom? What activities do they do while they are in their bedroom (read, color, build lego, study, etc.)?
2. Give Options
- If they need a little help envisioning or there is something they request that doesn’t fit the budget or the space, give them two or three options of similar items that do fit and let them choose. For example, I always go to the paint store by myself and source paint chips in the color they requested then narrow it down to two or three options for them to choose from. Once they’re older we’ll tackle the paint store together!
3. Create Together
- Give them a paint brush and let them paint the walls. Ask them to create artwork for a gallery wall. Get them involved in the process! You will create great memories creating together and they will be so proud of the end result.
The more we can encourage our kids authentic creativity, the stronger and more confident their inner voice and vision will be in the future. Their bedroom is a great place to start!

KIDS BEDROOM REVEAL
Ok, on to Kate’s room REVEAL!
When Kate and I started talking about her room refresh, it was clear she knew exactly what she wanted. “A rainbow room with a loft bed and a desk” she said. So, together we browsed loads of rainbow wallpaper on Spoonflower.
Check out the fun wallpaper she decided on!
I hope my top 3 tips, along with my daughter’s bedroom redesign provide some inspiration and help you tackle your next room redesign with you kids by your side. Thanks for reading!
